Propane dryer?

I have read about a 220v dryer being installed, is a propane dryer out of the question? These 110v dryers just don't cut it.

I have a Whirlpool 110V dryer and the wife loves it. Yes it takes awhile but does such a good job and I don't have to pack Propane. Wife says maybe 75 minutes at most for the heavier full load. The little Whirlpool front load spins alot of water out.

If your always on 50 amp service get a 220v dryer. But I would never pack the propane

Before you invest any real money in a washer or a dryer, remember how small these loads are and how long they take. Brenda does 3 loads EVERY Monday in the laundromat and four if she does sheets and towels. She is in and out in very little time, drinks coffee and reads while it is "cooking."
Compare a laundromat load and a Slendid load from an owner that will give you an honest answer. Mama better love to do laundry.

My wife and I have done that laundromat thing for years and it is no fun. When we received our DRV, with W/D prep, one of the first things that we did was to install them. We've only used them once so far, but oh, how great that was.

Thanks, I was just curious about propane. I wouldn't bother with it either. Our last 5er was a Travel Supreme and had Sears WD just like this DRV. I just keep telling her to let it run, there is no hurry. I have thought about the 220v, might look into it further to keep the DW happy. lol

Hi old, I guess that I did not read carefully. I prefer a gas dryer, but everything that I read cautioned against it. I initially got a 220, but then learned that two 110 volt wires don’t necessarily produce 220 volts. I went with a 110 volt washer and dryer, a little smaller than full size, and they work great.

Makes sense clev, my wife prefers a gas too but I have also read against it. We have a member who did a 220v dryer in his DRV so not being a electrician I'm guessing he intercepted the two 110v's to make a 220v.

The trailer has 240, it is the non commercial generators that do not output 240.

240 dryers are more efficient but you lose the ability to use with a standard generator or when on 30 amp service.

Trade off.........

Correct, and thank you for the input. My two 3500 Champions give me a full 50 amps, but it’s 110, not 220.

Our 220V model has performed very well. We have no regrets, and we would order the exact same setup again. Ariston, Splendide stack-able, vented

Actually at laundromat prices our units paid for themselves the first yr. We just kind of run them a forget them around our normal activities. Pretty darn stress free.

Yes there is a load size difference, but everything is a compromise in RV'ing isn't it? We even have a golf cart and there is 5 ea. laundries at our current resort. If I was to suggest loading it up, I don't think I can even describe the look I'd get from DW,
Well, we all have our own sack of rocks to carry.
BTW: Papa does just as much laundry around these parts as Mama, so don't even go there, Bro.

Such is life, and of course it's nice to have options.

True.

Given the choice of no washer and dryer, 120 or 240, for our purposes the 120 works very well.

A bit smaller loads, bit longer to dry, but we usually have an abundance of time while out camping.

We both use the machines and really like the convenience of having it onboard.

Last trailer had the combo, worked great for 9 seasons.
The separates in this rig are even better.

Port, that is an excellent summation.

Ours came with Whirlpool washer and 220V dryer. Dryer has been flawless and drys a full load of towels in about 30 min.

Washer died so I went with a Bosch 220V washer, it's a VERY high quality unit!

These are apartment size but they do a lot of clothes!

I have a 6500 Cummins Commercial gen so I can use both if on 30A or boon docking.

We will NEVER be without a W/D, D/W or residential frig!!!

^^^^^ That is why I ordered the "Commercial" 6500 it has two legs of 110V = 220V.

Silly to have a 220V dryer and not be able to run it. I had the first one installed by Rolling Retreats as DRV would NO WAY allow Cummins/Onan to install the Commercial version of the 6500.

Alicia offers this as a Dealer added option now.

ONLY negative is the dishwasher does not like the power from the gen as it's not "clean" enough. Not a biggie!

And yet they allowed me to order a Diesel inverter generator, that was installed after the build but before paint at Onan in Elkhart

Of note is the 8K inverter gen is not a 240 model.

I still laugh about this. Ten years ago when we looked at a Travel Supreme my wife opened up the cabinet where the WD was and said, "what a waste of space". My jaw hit the floor and I said, fine, you can go to the laundry mat without me! She learned real quick that the 'space' was used much better for a WD then for shelves or whatever. She now loves the WD!! I still tease her about that, lol

Propane

I wonder if in the small enclosed space of our 5ers carbon monoxide toxicity might be an issue with propane.

CO is a concern with any fossil fuel appliance - internal combustion device

rjallred,
Do you have a CO-generating device in your trailer?
