Insurance--AGAIN

Just got bills in the mail from Foremost--I originally was with RV America who covered thru AIG insurance. AIG recently sold to Farmers (who is insuring thru 21st Century/Foremost)--and they have sent 2 differing premiums: $789 and $1523. No explanations of differences, no stated total loss coverage other than "actual cash value" without any amount listed. Called RV America--they are hard pressed to access records now with the change from AIG to Foremost. They are going to research other companies to get a new quote.

I quit Farmers after many years of being covered by them-- for total lack of personal interest in my situation and needs. Now, by quirk of the industry, I am back with them--and again, they show lack of any idea of what I have and need--just send a bill and ask for more money.

What I would like from any of the TEXAS-insured forum members is some information on what coverage on a 2005 MS is running for you and what is included in the coverage. Any info you can provide without me being too nosy would certainly be appreciated.

I absolutely hate that I have to go thru this each year for something I have to have, and surely want the best coverage at an economical cost--if such an animal exists under TEXAS' stupid insurance rates.

Thanks in advance,
Joe

Insurance companies are the worst. Why even waste your time trying to deal with them. I have been using the agent below for the last few years with great success. Marlene is very personable and helpful. Give her a call.

Not TX, but FL FTers.

We started with GMAC, then switched to broker (that was renamed Poliseek) a couple of years later.

I tried to get other quotes as well. Called Miller Ins, no one ever answered the phone; called GEICO, they didn't do FT insurance; called another and they called back after we had already switched by doing an online QUOTE with Poliseek. I liked what I saw, so called and made the switch.

Thanks, have contacted those mentioned.

But, again, anyone living/registered in TEXAS have any recommendations?

I'm registered in NC. I use Twin Peaks because they, being in Florida, have a lot experience with RVers. No one in NC understands us and our needs. Don't really understand why you need someone in TX.

Joe, you might also check with Farm and City, Forest City, Ia. They specialize in RV's and toters. A lot of the class 8 guys use them.

http://www.fcisinsurance.com/

Not sure they are licensed for Texas but a 800 call will answer that and get you a quote.

We have been happy we switched.

Wingnut,

I also feel the pain.
I have been with Foremost for about 12 years. About 5 years on the MS.
I was paying a little over $400 in the beginning for replacement coverage on the MS.
Now I am well over $700 without replacement even after dropping the fulltimers coverage.

I will be watching this tread with interest.

Glenn,
Need someone with the trailer REGISTERED in TX--that will determine the coverage cost. I might not have made that clear. TX is a tough state to get low-cost coverage--claims from hurricanes/tornadoes/hail storms keep the costs high, so they say.
Insurance is a state-to-state situation, but I would think it highly unlikely anyone in most other states would want to be covered under TX rates if they have a choice.
RV America could not come up with anything lower than Foremost; Miller has a good quote of about $593, but I will have to re-define some of the coverage points they are using.
Had forgotten about Farm and Home in IA--will contact them also.

Thanks to all for the ideas.

My coverage, too, is now for Actual Cash Value, not replacement cost--interesting the cost has gone up as the coverage amount has gone down almost $11K.

Joe

Joe,

As you know, coverage and cost is based on state of registration and to some degree, where the unit will be parked most of the time. Also, any agent can only quote coverage for the state(s) they and/or their agency are licensed and the only for a company they represent that is admitted or licensed in that state, in your case Texas.

Be sure you compare apples to apples as not all policies coverages are the same. It is best if you have the declaration page of your policy in front of you when talking to an agent so you can give them the specifics of your present policy. Usually the basic coverages are close but the add-ons is where the coverage/price can vary greatly. Also, high deductibles may, but not always, be cost effective.[/code]

Keith,

Its a jungle out there in the insurance rate business....I have been insured since 1994 to present in TX--and in TX from 1967-1980. Very confusing and expensive to get good coverage for anything. I understand no one can shell out more in claims than they take in + a profit and stay in business.
But, I cannot understand premiums going up for less coverage, and I am determined to find some company who in interested in covering RVs that are used less than 1/3 of the time. Sure, the trailer is sitting somewhere that might be hit by a tornado or hail storm when not in use, but for coverage that is getting close to 1/2 my homeowners cost, it doesn't make sense.

The search goes on...

Joe
