quartzite and refer,shocks and Ubolts

no the refer is not working right...on setting one it is 26 degrees most of the time. But the other day i was able to obtain a Dometic shop from a friend who is a refer guru. I hesitate to ask him to work on it but I know he will walk me through if I need him.
right now we are battling boken u bolts two last week replaced those and now broken shocks...and the water pump is less than a year old and is acting up...no fun with all that in the desert. kinda takes the spark out of dry camping when the pump won't work...we are getting a little dusty. New shocks arriving tomorrow`11111111111111111q..oops puppy stepped on the keyboard. :D
we called DRV and spoke to Charles...he was lost as to why the ubolts came undone. Shocks maybe just worn...we shall see and check the stroke tomorrow. Cyndy

I'm not up on the newer units. You might want to look and see if any of the U bolts are double nutted or are at least lock nuts. If not, go to the hardware store and find some nuts to add to the U bolts if there is enough threaded material for them to fit. By double nutting them you are "locking" them in place so they can't back off. That is a more secure method than relying on lock washers if there are lock washers on them.

Just replaced my U bolts because of a broken shock bracket. Don't use the old bolts. The nuts are undersized and stretched to tighten. Made to use once. Make sure you get a U bolt from trailer people. The over the counter ones are not for us.

ubolts, leaf springs

Howard did a little research we did buy over the counter for the ones he replaced last week. now we see that we need to get #8 tensil strength. he found them on the web for about 7.59 each. so will rplace all four now and new plates....
and while we are at it we are thinking about adding another leaf spring
. any thoughts on that? Does change the handling or the ride? Thank You, Cyndy

Adding additional springs will stiffen the ride and reduce some sway. Keep in mind that this will transmit more vibration and vertical movement to the rig and contents. If you have been bottoming out check the weight of the rig first to see if it is an overload situation. If the rig is inside of the GVW when loaded and the trailer is bottoming out the springs may well be weak.

If it has not been bottoming out what benefit do you expect to gain by adding more springs?

I have to aggre with Mike, adding add leafs is not the best option. If they are weak, then for sure replace the whole pack with the correct set. They are set for the axle capacity. Any good spring shop can help you out with new u-bolts and springs if req.

I would as Mike mentioned see what your wts are and address that if over the axle capacity of 8k each. That might explain your issues with broken shocks etc. Also check what air press you have set in the trailair CP. If you need help with that call Trailair, they are very helpfull. They also are very informed on all things suspension related. Ask them about what you have going on.

There are some "soft springs" out there. It is not unheard of for a set of springs to lose temper for their rated load. Weigh first as it is now then decide if the springs are OK or if they might have lost temper a bit. There are shops that also re curve a set of springs and they might be able to tell you if they are good or bad.
