GVRW upgrade??

While talking with the DT factory rep at the RV show this weekend, we got on the subject of GVRW ratings for the Magnum suspension. He told me and I quote " If you have a Mobile Suite with the Magnum suspension, it has the same GVRW rating as the Elite of 20K instead of 18.5K since there is ZERO difference in the frame, or suspension."

So I think we ALL should start requesting DT to send out new stickers with the increased GVRW for our units that have the Magnum suspension!! I have my doubts that they will do anything but if a bunch of folks ask it may get them thinking.

I was pretty sure this was the case since they brought out the Elite 2 yrs ago, but never heard it directly from a DT rep before.

He also mentioned that they are constantly reading the forums and gathering info, but do not participate for obvious reasons. So post away!!

Cheers,
Bill

I just put the magnum suspension on my M/S and they are sending the updated sheet so I'll let you know when it arrives.

If you just buy an Elite Suite, you don't have to worry about it! lol

We couldn't pass up the opportunity on an '07 Elite Suite and really like the enhanements and upgrades from our '05 Mobile Suite. A big surprise was how much better it tows. It's clearly more 'balanced' with less 'chucking'.

I've always been curious about increasing GVWRs.

Our Elite has the 17.5 " tires, TA suspension, Monroe Magnum shocks, but is only rated at 18,500 GVWR. This is one of the reasons we always think about upgrading 5er's someday. So what are we missing that would make it 20,000.

Vickie,

Your missing the same thing as the rest of us that have the magnum suspension........the sticker from DT saying it's 20K.

They increased it for the Elite's in 07 I think, but not for the MS. Even though they apparently made zero changes in either according to DT rep.

I plan to request DT to provide a new sheet for inside and sticker for the exterior as well. Can't hurt to ask!

Cheers,
Bill

I received my new stickers today. One for the inside and one for the outside.

Now let me tell you something: When you pull off the outside sticker there is a safety feature that leaves a portion of the paper, that I could not get off, and there is "void" written all over it, therefore I would place the sticker OVER the other one and do not try and pull the old one off.

LEASON LEARNED DUH

My stickers say 18500 lbs.

hitchup, our 2006 Elite 36TK3 was made in Oct 2005 so it must have been one of the first ones and it's a 20,000# rig.

Ponch,

Our rig had it's GVW changed by ordering the "magnum suspension" and the 17.5" wheels when we set up the deal. Our sticker also reads 18,500 lbs. I'm glad I did order the 8k axles or the trailer would be maxed out weight, empty.

I have been very curious about the new 20k capacity when I saw the Elite model with the higher weight limit and no visible difference from my own rig's undercarriage. I was wondering what they did to justify the higher capacity and if they would "retro" a higher sticker for current units. Given your new sticker in your post I am assuming they won't.
