Sewer valve hard to operate

I have a 14 41RSSB for 3 years now and the sewer knife valve is getting harder to open and close. At times it is incompetent in that it allows some of the flush to leak out when closed. I talked with tech at factory and had advised putting some vegetable oil in tank to try and lubricate the valve fittings. This has not worked and I was wondering if anyone else had any other suggestions. I don't know why they choose to use those cables and make the valve so hard to access.

I finally gave up and had the valve replaced with an electric valve. Takes no effort at all to push the switch.

That does not make me feel good about my black tank cable in a couple of years!! Mine has been trouble free and very easy to open thus far. If it indeed starts giving me trouble, I may go the way of MnP and have an electric valve installed. Just pushing a button sounds very nice!

Thanks Mike. Sounds like a great idea. The only thing is that valve is really difficult to get at. May have to remove some of the water manifold to get to it unless you know an easier way.

It's difficult to get to but can be done. I had a mobile RV tech in Roanoke TX change mine out with a Valterra electric valve. He suffered and cussed a bit but got the job done in about an hour. He did not have to modify or dismantle any of the plumbing or water manifold.

I've installed DrainMaster electric valves on our current MS and a Sunnybrook previous to this one. If we replace this trailer I will do it again. So much less hassle and I install a second set of switches near the hot water switch so I can control from inside the coach.

I can see where that job would cause a man to lose his religion. We have a mobile repair man here locally that is supposed to be pretty good. I think i'll go that route. Thanks again

I just replaced the internal rubber gasket inside the valve.
Very easy to do and not reall all that messy. Just make sure you drain and rince black tank then tilt the trailer to the door side once the dripping stops from the drain..on mine any way. Just a little yucky water came out from around the valve itself..replace hole valve with new or just the black rubber seal..
The old seal was all torn up on mine.
Again very easy to do yourself. I did have to remove the water filter, I was able to place a small container under the work area and some old rags just in case.

Ours is a 2012 and was ALWAYS hard to open & close. We tried the vegetable oil with no success. Some Drv owners re routed the cable and it worked better. You might try doing a search on www.suitesowners.com. We finally had the valve replaced last summer and now it's easy peasy. I wouldn't go the electric valve way, they have their own issues.

donald,
Let us know how that goes--this is an issue that has been ongoing ever since they started making suites...

I tried following that link and didn't have any luck. I'm also interested in this subject because mine is hard to pull and every time I use it I'm afraid it will break. The travel supreme I had for eight years was a nightmare and I don't want to follow in those steps!

I replaced the valve with a new one but did not use the cable. I turned the valve so the handle faces towards the sliding door so it is accessible. I now just reach in to the valve and open and close directly. It was a bit of a task changing the valve but well worth it.

Suites owners international travel club, SOITC, google it. It's been around quite awhile and has a lot more info on Drv's than this site or the Thor site.

I have used vegetable oil for years and it does a great job for what we have but I can't think it would work on a cable style.

Good luck. It is not all that bad. The biggest problem I had was keeping the seals in place. It took a few times but I finally got it lined up and in place. You will want to check for leaks before calling the job finished. I done mine a couple of years ago and I am glad I went this route. There is nothing to go wrong now plus the valve is so easy to operate.

I dove right in and it took around 30 minutes to do the job. I filled the area the seals push into with Vaseline and coated everything thoroughly with it. No doubt the Vaseline helped keep the seals in place.

Best tip I can offer is hold your tongue the right way!

For sure! I even ran my hand under the valve yesterday and it was DRY!!!

The DRV design for the black and pull handle in in a good location but the BIG problem is the cable is placed in "U" shape.

This is as far as mine would close.
