Well it finally happened to me

Today I was on I 74 East of Champaign, Il. about 16 miles when I thru the tread off of the right side forward tire. Good thing that my kids were behind to tell me because I didn't feel a thing.

I had left Attica, In. headed home and as I always do I checked my tires for the correct pressure ( 110) before I left. I run Pressure Pro and it stilled showed everything OK, as it should have, because I didn't have a blow out, thank goodness.

Called Good Sams and everything went like clock work.

Now a question for everyone that has had this problem:

If I had driven on and not been aware of the problem that had occurred what would have happened to the tire warranty? In other words once the tire failed and a blow out occurred whats to say that the tire was running low on pressure, that built up HEAT, and then caused the problem???

Am I asking this correctly? or for that matter making any sense. LOL

At this time it looks like the departing tread beat an indentation in the metal sheet above, knocked the fender skirt loose on the forward edge and knocked the seal loose or tore it from it's mounting.

As a side note we had rubber pieces inside the trailer in front of the door.

Ponch: You've described my experience of a year ago to a "T", exactly same damage. If you have disc brakes check the lines to the calipers as mine were bent a bit. You may want to use some caulking around that galvanized steel sheet above the wheels as water from tires running in the rain may find it's way past that sheet where it tucks over the frame now. Keep the casing to submit to Goodyear for failure diagnosis and reimbursement of repair costs. I didn't even think of that as it was over 100F in the shade and I just bought a new tire (BF Goodrich) to replace the spare and trucked on.

I drove for a little over 5 miles on mine (I-40 through Tulsa) before becoming aware that the tread had departed. It was still inflated to full pressure and more due to the heat. Those tires are a bear to handle with all of those steel belt ends waiting to draw blood!

Mine and most others I have heard of completely blew yet I have not heard of anyone having trouble with Goodyear handling their clams.

I just went through a double feature. Through the tread on the right rear and when going to get the estament for damage had a blow out on the left rear. Over $8000 worth of damage. GoodYear wanted both tires and paid for all damages and tires. They promised a prorate on the other two tires because they have the same number and I told them I didn't want to drive on them. They want me to send the other two tires also. I didn't feel either one of them but I did hear the blow out. It had thoughn the tread first. The tire dealer should take gare of the shipping for all tires. They did for me.

Ponch,

When my Goodyear G159 blew on the old trailer it was fragmented badly. Except for parts of the sidewall it was in pieces. I gathered up several of the larger chunks and gave them to the dealer that was helping process the claim through Goodyear. You don't need all of it to send in and the dealer took care of the shipping for me.

It's important to start the claim through a dealer. They will get the initial paperwork done and give you the claim number for it. It will not be done overnight. In my case it took a month from blow out to end of claim check cashing and that included the repairs on my rig. They should be able to give you an 800 number for customer support on the claim and you can call to check the progress.

I have the 16" wheels. But I hear the 17 1/2" are having the same problem. (GoodYear)

Went to dealer this morning. He had me call Goodyear explain the problem. They said no problem. Tire is replaced this afternoon.

Tomorrow I go see what the damage is and then fax that info to Goodyear.

Im going to Goshen for Disc brakes soon so I'm going to combine
the trip and stop off in Elkhart and have Charger Enterprises do the work.

New fender, seal, tire and brakes now that's what I call "gitun er done" !!! LOL

Goodyear could not have been any more helpful or nice. Sure do hope the next three hold up or I'm going to be telling them they all need to be replaced.
Just a thought: I wonder if I should just have them replace them all now????

I have just received a check from Goodyear for the full amount. Now that's what I call good service.

Poch, if you haven't replaced all of the tires by now and they are all the same number (date) I would suggest you do before another trip. I was on my way to get an estament on damage from my first one when I had the second one. About 200 miles difference.
