how is your 6.0

I have a 2004 ford 6.0 nothing but trouble. Just wondering is any one else is dealing with the same items. Turbo boot blows off 4 times they have replaced turbo. Bucking and loss of power like it is running ou of fuel. Now the sensors in trani has gone bad. It only has 65.000 miles on it. When it runs it towes like a champ. But the problems are just getting to be to much.
This is my 6 ford pick up I think it is my last.
Let me know if you are haveing some of the same problems and how you solved them.

Too much trailer?

According to the Trailer Life ratings the max 5th wheel towing capacity for a 2004 F250/350 is 14,000 with a V10 gas, and 13,900 with the 6.0 diesel.

Check the weight of the trailer + cargo. Just a thought.

I've got a 2006 F-350 6.0 and have had absolutely no probems with the engine, transmission, or any other part of the truck. It has 33,000 miles of which about 18,000 are towing our MS 36RS3 which weighs 15,975 pounds fully loaded. I've had no problems with the MS to speak of either, other than routine: light bulbs, batteries, etc. Sorry about your bad experience, but one of the reasons I went with the 6.0 is I found that the later versions had most of the problems fixed. That's why I wouldn't dream of buying the new 6.4 for 2-3 years. It takes awhile for the real world people to find the problems no matter how much they drive them on the test tracks.

I had an '04 350 that I got to 175k+ miles, at that point it blew the engine oil cooler--$2700--fixed that and traded for an '07 with no problems at 12.5k.

For some help on the boot problem, you might check on
www.thedieselstop.com website. There were quite a few that had that problem. Another helpful Ford site is www.fordtruckenthusiasts.com
or www.fte.com

The '04 was SRW and only pulled the MS about 1200 miles, but no trouble pulling it. My DRW '07 is doing just fine, so far, when towing.

Have the same truck with absolutely no problems and I'm towing too much weight but it towes great. When I bought it used with 45,000 miles I had the dealer replace 3 injectors and it hasn't given us a but of problem. Great vehicle. Sorry about your problems. It seems too often that all the parts just don't line up correctly. I have a 85 VW golf (used to go to work for 14 years) that has 400,000 actual miles on it and it still gets 40 mile per gallon and used no oil. It's just the all the parts lined up correctly that time. I will be interested in the new 08 Ford with more weight towing capacity but I haven't looked as of yet. Good luck. Doug

Have a 2003 550 6.0--if hindsight was 20/20 we'd never had gotten it. It's been in the shop more than out--every time we take a long trip (which is nearly every time we move somewhere) it has to go back into the shop. We bought it new and it's been a problem from the beginning. Like said before, when it's running good, it's the best, but the problem is that everything is a problem. Our extended warranty is about to $50 us to death! It's had 4 turbos replaced, the boot 2 times, 3 injectors, numerous sensors, just recently a head gasket and another injector. My father had a 450 with many of the same problems, got rid of his because it was too much trouble. We've got too much money in ours to get rid of it--custom bed package and all that. It's gotten to where we HATE the truck because when we move, we just know we're going to have a problem with it and have it in the shop again. I would not get another Ford though this is the 4th we've had, but never this much problem.

My 07 F350 has close to 12K miles with no issues so far. It loves it when I hook up my heavy 38RL3 and does a great job towing, even in the mountains. I see lots of people letting their PSD's idle keeping cab nice and cool to extended periods, have heard this is extremely hard on the EGR Valve to coke up. There are conversion companies that will change PSD engines out with a Cummins or Cat engine for approx. $10K. Still cheaper than buying new truck.

RGordon has the right idea which is my next project,putting my05 common rail Cummins in my 05 King Ranch.I haven't had problems with the 6.0 but miss the torque of my old Dodge Cummins.

My son in law has a 2003 with about 80,000 miles. Outside of regular service it's had a sensor replaced. My 2005 has over 50,000 miles and really hasn't had anything done. Both are excellant trucks, and also work hard on the farm as well as pull RVs

I have a 06 F350 King Ranch and have had some problems. First I had he oil changed and the guy told me there was a leak. I took it to the dealer and they said I need a oil pan gasket. No problem except they had to pull the engine out to fix it.
After that the engine light came on. It's been in three times for the same light. They told me the shitty gas was the problem and that I should add Cetain? to the gas every fill up. It's back in the shop again for another engine light.

Ford 6.0

'07 KR 350 dually. No problems. If the CEL light only started coming on AFTER the engine work, they are dancing around that they are the cause. If its WIF light, its different from CEL light. If it IS the WIF light, then draining the housing and changing the filter will cure that--or make them change out the sensor in the frame mounted filter. If you had that much water in the fuel, you should be having some other indications. By the way, have you ever opened the drain plug and captured the runoff to see what is in it?

Ford 6.0

Very happy with my 2004. Over 117,000 km, no problems, completely stock, have never added upgrades to increase power etc. Would buy again in a minute.

I have an '06 6.0 F350 with about 70,000KM. Only problem was a warranty item, IPR, last year. Luckily we weren't far from a Ford dealership (had to be towed) and they took care of us.
Just back from servicing and all looked good.

I solved my problems early on and pulled the 6.0 and sold it and installed a 5.9 Cummins,now I have a GREAT F350 King Ranch....

I have heard the Cummins can replace a 6.0 but you are the first person I have seen say they actually did it. I plan on keep out truck for many years so when the 6.0 starts having issue, will probably consider changing the engine as opposed to the entire truck. I know the Ford 7.3 is almost a direct change out, but are no longer manufactured so will be harder to find. I also really like Cummins engines. So now a few questions about converting to a Cummins.

1.- Were you able to use the same transmission?
2.- What electronic modifications were required?
3.- Was any of the exhaust system interchangeable?
3.- What was the overall cost when complete?
