2008 Select Suite
We are thinking about trading in our 2007 35' Pilgrim Legend for a
2008 36' Select Suite.
Our truck is a 2007 Dodge Dually 1 ton.
Also we only travel July thru October. After reading towing post, I
don't think that this is a good option for our truck.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

towing
I would suggest you look at several of the signatures and profiles of the members. You will find the majority (approx 95% )tow with a 1 ton dually. I personally have towed a 2004 mobil suites, 2006 elite, and now a 2009 Elite all over the county with a 1 ton. I would personally never consider using anything else. I also drive tractor trailer semi's and it is mho that a semi is over doing it. (Sorry HD drivers, I know by the books 1 tons are overloaded if you pack alot into your trailer, which I do). I have never had a problem stopping my unit with a 2004 chevy 1 ton and I have had to make a more than one panic stop.
Shield Up.....

A wise RV'er will look at the specs of their equipment and stay within the limits. You are smart to match the tow vehicle to the weight. Check your insurer's exclusions as well to make sure they do not exclude coverage for over weight towing. Especially in the current economic situation insurers will be leaving no stone unturned to be able to deny coverage in the event of a mishap on the road.

I've always understood the Selects weigh less than the Mobiles or Elites. If that is true I don't think you would be over the vehicles ratings. First I'd make sure I had a P3 brake controller then I'd buy it, hitch it, tow it and never look back!

Selects do weigh less than the Mobile or Elite. Ours came in from the factory at 13, 100, MoGolfer's came in at 13,900. I believe gross weight on the Select is supposed to be 15,200, within our Dodge dually gross tow rating of 23,000. I would not tow a Mobile or an Elite with our truck but the Select is a good fit. We picked ours up on June 1, 2006 and are fulltimer's. It's a great choice. Love it.

Do you mean "gross combined weight rating"?

I believe your Dodge is rated to pull slightly less than 16K, I know my SRW 3500 is, and all a DRW really gives you is additional stability. So if your rig is 15+K empty, aren't you at the upper end of the rating scale ?

The trailer came from the factory empty of all of your "stuff" and water too. The weight that is important is the max or GVW of the trailer as no one tows an empty unit other than a delivery service. You tow the trailer loaded and need to know what that weight is. That tells you if you are in the specs for your tow vehicle.
