Propane Tap

My wife and I took the factory tour on Monday and went over the custom features we want on our Elite with Dan Tauer.

I was disappointed to hear that the propane tap from the 40# tanks to the curbside would have to be made from the low pressure side of the regulator.
This means that our Coleman stove and Weber Q100 would need to have their regulators removed to work properly, making it impossible to use 1# bottles if we wanted to. Code rules were cited.

Has anyone made the tap before the regulator sending high pressure propane to your grill?

I have a weber Q100 and added a tap to our MS on the low side. Easy to remove the reg from the Q100 and adapt the fittings. But as you say can not use the small bottles like that unless to make up a fitting to connect the old reg with a Quick disconnect ??

For the Coleman, it may not be possible to remove the reg if its like one I saw. There was a made to fit pipe that was part of the burner. No fittings.

You could just not add it at DRV and do it later yourself from the high side. Can be done in the compartment at the bottles before the main reg.

As easy as it is to remove the regulator from your grill (10 minute mod to Q200) it is just as easy to make a fitting that goes on the 1 lb bottles with the regulator and a quick disconnect fitting so you can use them too. But why I wouldn't know, you have 80 of them available on the MS.

Propane Tap

If you want to use the stove or grill at a picnic table well away from the length of quick disconnect hose you need the 1# bottles which operate at high pressure.

Coleman Q200/propane tap

My MS came new with a low pressure line and quick connect stubbed out just in front of the steps. The quick connect has a valve in it also.
My Coleman Q200 came out of the dumpster at our RV park. Actually found two of them. A little tinkering and cleaning on the table got one working in perfect fashion. The other went back in the dumpster. I just cut the regulator off with a hacksaw. Then roughed up the remaining tube and put a hose on it with a hose clamp. One clamp enough as it is low pressure.
It works perfectly and has for 3 seasons. I did buy new aluminum grates and threw out the old cast iron ones.

I use a small charcoal grill. No additional equipment required and I can use it at any location without concern for hoses or tanks. Uses less propane too.
