g versus h

Does anyone have any experience going from a g rated tire to a H rated tire on their MS?

Change

I think to do that you will have to go to a 17.5 tire and wheel. I had G rated on my 06 and they were 16 inch.

On this Junk 09 I have H rated and it has 17.5 tires and wheels.

Although I never had any trouble with the G's on my 06 I am more comfortable with the H's and 17.5's on this junk 09.

As always good camping

I had the Goodyear G614's on 3 different 5th wheels but the 2010 Suites came with the Goodyear G114's 17.5's and never have had a issues with the either the G614's or G114's Goodyear tires.

However I will probably replace our G114's this year we put lots of miles on the last two years. I'm looking into Toyo's but I'm still in the research mode for now. I ran Toyo's on my Freightliner and they were a excellent wearing tire. I also ran a set on a Silverado 1500 grocery hauler also ....

I was going to put the Michelin's on the Freightliner and my Tire guy talked me into trying the Toyo's. Michelin has price its to high for me. The Michelin cost per tire was $525.00 vs $350.00 for the Toyo's.

I for sure would go with a 17.5" tire on a Mobile Suites.... Good Luck with your choice... Happy Trails...

In 05 when we started looking at the brand we were going to ignore MS units We had found several 36' rigs on dealer lots. On checking the data tags it was pretty obvious that there was almost no CCC (cargo carrying capacity) on them with the 7k axles and G rated tires. One unit had a whopping 600 lbs of load left over from empty. It wasn't until MS put the 8k axles and H rated tires that they got any real load capacity at all.

If you are looking at a unit with the lighter axle and tires, walk away from it unless you plan on leaving it in place.

I have an '05 I bought used with exactly the situation that Motor31 describes.
Replaced the 16" wheels/tires with 17.5" wheels and Michelin XTAs LR J that I got from www.trailertiresandwheels.com and have been completely satisfied with the changeout. 5 seasons of travel on them, very little wear and no flats. The XTAs eacn have a capacity of 4805 lbs, giving me a lot of weight room on my unit.
Its a simple swap, just takes about $2000 to do it.

My Michelin's 17.5 inch are J rated. I don't know how you get H rated tires in a 17.5 inch unless you special order them.

I also replaced my 16" Goodyears with 17.5" wheels and tires from www.trailertiresandwheels.com. I got the 17.5" Goodyears and aluminum wheels all mounted, balanced and inflated for $2,500 including shipping. I'm very pleased with their service.

IIRC Toyo also manufactures 17.5" tires in H range. They are found on the commercial tire web sites as this is a tire used on tag axles and small tire (less than 22") commercial grade trailers.

In plain English, you have to look for the size in the truck tire locations, not the light duty grade tire shops that handle cars and light trucks like 1 tons.

We have 8,000# axles on our MS. We do have the 16" Goodyear G tires though. Is it possible to get rims and tries for the 17's for my axles. We weight right at 17,000#. No problems so far since I put new tires on, had multiple tire failures when first got MS.

Talk to the folks at www.trailertiresandwheels.com. The 17.5" tires are only 1/2" bigger in diameter than the 16" and they carry a whole lot more weight.

Glenn,
It is a simple swapout, particularly if you use trailertiresandwheels.com to get them. They know exactly what you need and will supply a balanced wheel and tire, plus ship them anywhere you want. They are located in NW Ohio if one of you jobs would place you near there.
