2008 F-450 PICK-UP

I just read an article about the new 2008 F-450 that is being unveiled at the Texas State Fair.

They really upped the capacities.

It doesn't look like the competition will come close to this for a couple of years.

Heard there might be a new 4.6L Diesel for the F150 but not in the next year or so. Ford is going with a new 6.4L with 350hp and 650ftlb Torque for the 2008 SuperDuty.

The 6.4 is an International Powerstroke, the Cat is not an option. Scheduled production line start up is Jan 3 2007 and dealers can submit orders beginning Nov 1 2006. Every dealer I talked to has yet to get prices or option sheets but by peacing together info from all the press releases you can figure most of it out.

I wonder why Ford is waiting so long to play catch up? My 2006 Duramax touts 360 HP and 650 lb.-ft of torque right now.

One thing that bothers me is that in this insane race to be "Best in Class" the big three keep upping their towing capacities just because of a few more horsepower, a little more torque, harder steel in the frame, etc.

The fact is that they are still 7000 to 8000 pound trucks with the same size wheels and brakes being called on to stop heavier and heavier trailers every year.

It won't be long before the GM, Ford and Dodge trucks will be touting Gross capacities well over 30K and someone is going to get hurt!
