TV/cable connections

Does anyone know for sure that the CABLE connection in an '05 is an RG-6 cable and not regular coax?

RG-6

Perhaps someone can correct me, but I thought RG-6 and "regular" coax was the same thing.

Here is an article about coax cable.

RG-6

I am not an expert by any definition, but satellite signals will not work on regular coax (I think this is RG-59?) but cable will work on both. I have been told by several TV repairmen this is so. Satellite requires the RG-6 that is a slightly bigger in diameter wire and has more shielding in it, I think.
Just trying to figure out if I can use the two installed connections in the service compartment to run the two signals from the Winegard Carryout.
Thanks for the link to the article--it doesn't explain why TV guys who ran the cables in my house told me it had to be RG-6. Or why there are two connections in the trailer, if they are both the same, because they come out in the same place. I haven't ever been in a situation that I wanted to have both cable and sat hooked up--maybe that would be why?
I admit to being challenged when it comes to this type stuff.

Say whaaaaaaattt?

That lost me for sure--if you understand it, please go to work for DRV and wire the trailer correctly.

Wingnut60,
I use the two inlet connections to run two satelite feeds to ent. center when I use a remote(movable) dish.
It works fine. Both are RG6.
Then I have an AB switch on one to switch back to cable when needed.
No problems!

Wingnut.

I am assuming you are having trouble with the outside cable connection. The factory put in a SPLITTER in that line. The splitter is a signal killer for satellite. On my rig I threw the splitter away and use a single outside coax connection. the other one is not hooked up to anything. I have an A / B switch inside the unit next to the control box that determines which feed the control box will use, outside dish or built in dish coax. I got the switch from a real electronics store, not a DRV make do "solution".

The coax in my rigs seems to be RG6 which is fine. What they did with it by installing splitters is not fine. I got the bedroom TV and outside feeds to work properly when I spent a long day untangling the rats nest of cables they threw in the unit and got rid of both of the signal splitters they put in it. Since then both TV's have worked the way they were supposed to.

IMO the coax and controller installer was having a two 6 pack day when he wired the rig and the guy who designed the entertainment wiring "system" was on a 4 week bender.

Motor31,
More info--thanks. Is there a splitter on each coax? And they serve no purpose--like an appendix? I'll check behind the plates.

Mike,
Just checked--no splitters in the lines. I should be ok with the 2 cables--cable and sat going direct to the DVR--that will get the Carryout working. Just have to figure out the rest of the "rats nest."
Thanks,
Joe

The second splitter, in the ent. center is after the bedroom switch on the video selector.
One side of the splitter goes to bedroom from video selector and the other feed from that splitter goes to the stereo receiver for the radio antenna.
So, if you switch the video selector to antenna for bedroom it will send antenna to the radio too.

I hope this helps.....

Well, I said I ain't no expert at this stuff--there cannot be anything between the Carryout and the DVR--nothing. So I will have the cable and the sat coax connected to Sat 1 and Sat 2 in on the back of the DVR. That will get me Dish in the living room. I'll let my resident expert (wife) do the thinking from there about connecting everything else up.
I think I'm getting a headache.

Wingnut60,

I don't want to confuse you.
But, you need a 3X4 multi-switch.
I too have a DVR and separate receiver in bedroom.
Here is a link to a 3X4 multi-switch to give you an idea what I am talking about.
http://www.prosatellitesupply.com/PD...LTI-SWITCH.pdf
Disregard the "DIPLEXERS".

You can run your sat. and cable lines into it and hook up up to 4 receivers.

Just use the line that goes to the bedroom to get satelite signal to bedroom.
Your Suite is most likely like mine(2005). With no splitters in the lines between the outside hookup center and ent. center. And no splitter between the ent. center and the bedroom.
SO this should work for you..
