Biloxi, MS ~ Home of Katrina Destruction

Ohmygosh. We just got home from a few days in Biloxi. The last time we had reservations at our favorite campground was the week Katrina decided to visit. This was our first time back.

Obviously, the destruction was horrendous. There are slabs and foundations all over where buildings/home were. All of the gorgeous antebellum homes lining Hwy 90 are gone. Just gone. Beauvoir is still under major renovations and shows much damage, even today. In some places, the beach is littered with metal and concrete and plastic, and will take machinery to clean it up.

The good news is that Biloxi is coming back. Pass Christian and Gulfport took major damage, also. We drove over to New Orleans one day, and it is so sad to see the empty buildings and homes. But NOLA was hopping.

There are a few condos that have been built in Biloxi, Gulfport and Pass Christian, and many signs indicating that more are on the way. There are also many, many "for sale" signs. The casinos have rebuilt, but are smaller except for Beau Rivage and IP. Our favorite campground, Southern Comfort, weathered the storm well.

We met friends there, and had some nice time out. The dogs loved the beach.

The MS made the trip just fine. On the way back, we had a scare. We were driving down the interstate when the truck just sort of... stopped. It wouldn't pull anymore. Then the engine light came on. We eased over to the side of the interstate and turned off the truck and then restarted it. It's all about computers sometimes. Well, it was okay, but we drove very slow. Come to find out, the gas cap must not have been on tight enough. DH tightened it, and the light went out, and we made it home with no further problems. Of course, he'll take it in and make sure that was the problem, but we are sure it was.

It was nice to be in our home-away-from-home again. With the new grandbaby, we haven't gone much this year. We keep dreaming about the future when we can take months at a time.

We never saw another MS on the whole trip.

We still have the bumps in the wall, but they don't seem to be getting any worse. Still have no idea what they are. We had a couple of major downpours, and don't have a leak.

Sounds like the truck went into "Limp Mode". It will happen if the computer sense certain codes to protect the eng/tranny from damage. If you have Onstar they can check the codes for you and tell what is was. The dealer will also be able to tell when they download the codes. I think you nailed it with the fuel cap! Good job.

Cheers,
Bill

Yes, I think so. It hasn't happened since.

That vehicle doesn't have onstar, but my HHR does, and I love it!
