FYI

Been out since a week before Christmas started having refer trouble unit throwing a code on the led readout.

Found out that power had been lost to the 110 volt plug in. Thought I found a loose connection but that was not the problem.

In the end found out that the 110 power to refer is not connected to the power service panel. The Amish Craftsmen tied it in somewhere ahead of the circuit breaker panel have no idea where.

I also think the water heater is tied in ahead of the breaker box haven't dug real deep into that yet but will when I get home.

The only way I was able to shut down power to the refer when it had power and to the water heater was to trip the breakers on the power pedestal.

As I posted a few weeks ago I lost power to the kitchen island and could not find a wire in the circuit panel connected to the island wiring they may all be related don't know for sure yet.

Just thought that you all should know if you got a quota trailer you may have the same trouble.

As always good camping

We are looking at the purchase of a DRV this spring. We just had an Rv show here at Toronto and Kyle Miller was here from the factory. In one of out discussions he mentioned that if the unit has an inverter the fridge and the hot water tank are not connected to it. It is just thought but perhaps there is a situation with the inverter switch. ????

Good lick with your situation!!

It is not the switch that is the issue it's one of amperage draw. The fridge and water heater are both high amp draw items when on AC voltage. The inverter would be drawing 12 volts from your battery bank to supply that AC and would drain the bank very quickly if the inverter could handle the load at all. The fridge and water heater are designed to run on propane and 12 volts when shore power is not available. The drain on your battery bank at that time is minimal. Trying to supply power to AC items like those would leave you with no power in short order. Your air conditioner is another item that is not connected to the inverter as well for the same reason, batteries cannot provide power for 110 volt high demand items for any real length of time.

That inverter is meant to power low drain items like a high efficiency TV or your lap top and charge your phone(s). You can't get something for nothing.

Inverter

My trailer did not come with a factory inverter so I don't have an inverter problem. I'm pretty sure I have a DRV problem.

Thanks for the suggestion though much appreciated.

As always good camping

Rotax,

My comment was in answer to Morgans statement. I was trying to clear up his misconception about the inverter and 110 volt items it could handle.

Let us know what you find out in yours.

Inverter

Mike,

No problem, I was just clearing up the fact that I did not have an inverter and as you said no high draw items will be connected to it anyway.

As always good camping.

DRV, as well as other builders, will factory install a 120v frig. It is connected to an inverter. Water heaters are resistive and are not. I have no personal experience with one. Every manuf. says your tow vehicle will supply enough current to keep your battery charged while connected. Do not know how long it will last boondocking.

Unfortunately, not every tv mfg knows much about RVing--the most the alternator will do is barely maintain a charged battery. Trying to raise the charge state will take a looonnnggg time.
