replacement tires

My 2006 Elite suite,3207, had a tire fail on the way to Camping world on Tuesday afternoon. Lots of tread as we put about 3000 miles on the unit yearly, going to Fla. from Mich. Belle tire looked at the tires and said 2006 tires were okay, 6-7 years was when they start having problems. Have got prices for all 4 tires replacing them with the 17.5 h tire at $1820-$2200 for 4 tires. Belle tire wanted to sell me Firestones for $1838, another tire store offered Nanook tires same size for $1100. For safety and peace of mind still looking at the Goodyear, but tire date is Dec 2014 for the Goodyears. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated

We have the Michelin XTA tires on our M/S. They are a load range J tire. They are 4 to 5 years old and still look like new. I haven't priced tires but the Michelin will be pricey. Do NOT even consider any tire made in China.

FWIW--
I recently replaced my 17.5 Coopers with Sailun S637. Have about 4500 miles, no problems, but still to early to tell if I made a good decision. I bought them on eBay for $175ea shipped to my house. $15ea for mounting. Have yet to hear any bad reports on them, but they are a Chinese brand.
My first set of Michelins lasted 4 years, looked like new, 2 had tread separations. Replaced with Cooper RM160s, lasted 3 years but I had axle problems that wore them badly. The Coopers were $264ea, and made the 15000 mile trip to Alaska just fine.
If you can afford them, Michelins should be a great choice.
If you want to check tire set pricing, check out:
www.trailertiresandwheels.com they know their business very well and ship anywhere.

contact tiresandwheels.com talk to Scott. They sell tire and wheel combo's already balanced or just tires. They sell a lot so their tires are fresh.

I run GY "H" tires and GY "G" for thousands of miles without even a flat. Expensive but they are worth it to me!

I just purchased a set of Goodyear G114 17.5" wheels and tires from tiresandwheels.com. They were good to deal with and had a manufacture date of less than 90 days.

I know from experience that Goodyear stands behind their tires if they blow and cause damage. People have posted on the SOITC forum that Michelin does not. But there were no details on the cause of failure on the Michelins.

If they are original tires I would put the same back on.

Four brand new Goodyear tires were installed today, identical to what came off the trailer and they were built in 2015, better to be safe as I had zero problems for close to 9 years with the 17.5 H load range tires

The Goodyears are an excellent choice. There are legions of posts on many forums attesting to the fact that they stand behind repairs to damage caused by blowouts.
On our previous coach I spec'd Michelin XPS ribs, and they performed flawlessly. Either manufacturers LT tires are as close as we will get to trouble free travel.

Good call on the GY's!

I plan on running the GY "H" tires on our 2016 MS for at least 8 years unless they wear our before that time.

My gy's were nearly eight years old when I decided to get new ones. I plan to put them on an equipment trailer and see how long they will go.

Cooper tire and Rubber

Coopers heavy duty truck and trailer tires are made in China under the name of Hercules...The Salesmen at the tire store I have done business with for many years tells me there is no better HD tire on the market...He said he has sold and installed them on heavy equipment trailers numerous times and has not had one complaint and his customers seem very satisfied...

So called China bombers tires

I am going to jog everyone's memory a bit here...Back in the 50s and 60s we were buying cheap inferior products made in Japan...In the late 60s and 70s Honda,Toyota and Datsun started exporting cars to the US...Most of us wouldn't buy one of those cheap poorly made cars..That is until we realize what a great product they really were...If you remember we were driving Pintos and Vegas and what a poorly manufactured vehicle they turned out to be...The Japanese auto industry knew if they entered this market they would have to produce a quality product and they did so...Now we are doing the same thing with China sure they export many poorly made products to the US but that is changing...Go to a lawn and garden power equipment store and ask them what the best grass string trimmer is...He will tell you it is an ECHO and chainsaws as well, they are made in China...So are China Bomber tire any better or worse then what are manufactured here in the U.S. I'm not so sure...

All tires are now made in China except Perrelli tires. Some other well known tire manufacturers have their factories in China and their tires are stamped made in USA. This was told to me by a well know tire dealership.

Is he saying Hercules are better than GY "G" or "H" tires?

As stated in the other thread about tires, I think you should do some checking in other places. Methinks your "well known" tire dealer may be covering for the fact that all he buys and sells is China made tires.
