Cable support under slide out
I have had this cable support under my slide out break twice on my present camper amd once on my previous camper. I believe it is called Quick Draw support. Right now the camper is at the dealer for slide issues and they are supposed to fix the support. It is a poor design as it breaks right where it attaches to the frame. The plactic can't take all that flexing. I had a fellow MS owner tell my to install a stainless steel hinge on the frame end of the support then attach the hinge to the frame. This seems like a good idea. Anyone else have problems with this support and come up with another fix? Thanks.

I have had the same problem on my 2004 going to put a hing on my 2011 works great

I'm sure a lot of us have had to deal with that little goof. The problem is they fasten the thing to the frame and the slideout while it's deployed with no effort made to make sure it isn't stressed by being mis-aligned as the slideout comes in, torquing a thin piece of plastic isn't good for it.

Mine broke and I purchased a 4 or 5 inch metal hinge. This takes the strain off the plastic and eliminates the stress point.

I have put the hinges on three years ago shortly after buying it. Has worked everytime with no problems.

I have used hinges to repair these straps at their attach points to the frame. My question is how to repair one that has broke in the center. Does anyone have any suggestions other than replacing the entire strap?

straps
Just put another hinge in the middle? Pretty soon it will be all hinges, no plastic. Then it will hold together. Have to fix 2 of mine.

A hinge in the middle was what I was thinking. Was just wandering if that would allow the wires to bend too tight and eventually cause them to break. Guess I'll find out. :?

Just don't tie them tightly near the hinge--that would leave room to move/bend.

I patched one, not in the middle, but near one end.
I used a couple strips of aluminum and self tapping screws. I just sandwiched the plastic between the aluminum strips.
Well over two years ago, and it is still holding.

Just finished repairing our wire support under the door side slide. It was broken in the middle of the support. I used the hinge method that is commonly used when these break at the attach points but since this was in the middle, I attached the hinge in reverse so it will not close completely. This prevents pinching the wires or over bending them.

I did a fix over a year ago using a 6'' wide steel band.
It is much stronger than the plastic piece that was originally there.
It is quite flexible, and I have had no problems of any kind with this repair.

Wing-Nut that metal is just basically light guage steel, about .050".
Sheet steel similar to what we use to do auto-body repair would work as well.

Wingnut 60, all I do is clean it once a year with special grease.....elbow-grease that is , then every couple of years I sand everything I can get to and re-paint it.
I am still able to crawl around under there, so I visit often.... :lol:

Same problem! While I had it at Paul Cross's for other work, he installed a hinge between frame and support - problem solved.
