Bolts
Help--
I lost a bolt that holds the caliper to the brake rotor. Would any body know what size bolt it takes? It rubbed the inside of my wheel pretty good, and trying to find one so I can get back on the road again.
I don't know if I can find one locally or not. May have to call Lippert. The other bolt on the same caliper held so it didn't do too much damage, luckily. I have a 2008 36Tk3 with kodiac hydraulic brakes, 16 inch wheels.

David, THis might a dumb question, but can't you just take the other bolt out of the same caliper and get size. Wouldn't they be the same size? If not, take another wheel off and remove a bolt from that caliper to get size. I would think most larger auto parts would have them or contact Kodiak. Might even be metric! Good luck!!!

David
I think there was some kind of service bulletin on those caliper bolts you might run a search on the board here and get a hit on it.
Hope this is of some help

The bolts may be available at a parts store since the brake pads can be purchased that way. If that doesn't work I would call Kodiak Brake in Dallas, Tx and have them send you the part. The bolts usually come with the calipers, but I'm sure they have them loose. They also will advise on the correct torque for the bolts so you don't have that problem again.

These are special bolts and you must use the proper one. They don't clamp down on the caliper because the caliper needs to slide on these as the lingings wear. The diameter and length must be exact. If warranty applies you will need to call DRV or Lippert but if you have trouble getting a bolt shipped I believe I have a spare that I can ship on Monday. I would need to know today (Sunday) in order to take it to the office on Monday.
I have 17.5 wheels but I suspect the calipers are the same (not 100% sure).

Bolts
The caliper bolts for the Kodiak brakes on my -08 MS 36Tk3 are stainless steel bolts. It takes an 11 mm x1.5 x3 1/8 in long bolt. If you get into a bind on the road like I did, a bolt from the front axel of a 1985-1990 Cadillac Deville will work. I got mine from a parts store.
Kodiak said it would work and it did to get me out of a jam and back on the road. Meanwhile, they have sent me the correct bolts to put on when I get back home.
Also use some lock thread on the bolts.
Kodiak is out of Fort Worth,Texas (817-284-2324). Very nice people to work with.
Torque bolt at 35-40 psi, which is snug and then add a 1/4 turn for proper torque.
Caliper holder sure did scar up the inside of my shinny wheel rim when I applied the brakes. It also locked up and smoked my back tire for a small distance.
Hope this info helps. You might want to check the tightness of your bolts before you head out on a trip.

David there was a recall on the bolts. My 2007 RS3 had the same problem. I was told that the factory used the wrong grade bolts, you need to talk to Tom Peck at Double Tree.

Bolts
Today, I received the following letter from Tom Peck.
" Several owners of model year 08-11 DRV vehicles have experienced loosening of the wheel clamping system. Incidents are detected as recurring looseness (requiring frequent tightening) or as multiple stud fractures. In the most serious cases, all eight of the wheel mounting studs have fractured. In extreme cases, where all studs have fractured, the wheel has seperated from the vehicle."
Wants us to make sure to torque wheel nuts for 16" rims (9/16"studs) to 120-125 lb-ft. and 17.5 rims (5/8"studs) to 125-150 lb-ft.
A 3 page letter. Just wondering if any one else received this letter? Letter dated August 25,2011.
David
