I will see if I can get the same profile in Cherry and have it finished at Price and Visser in Bellingham WA this Summer. I may place a backer wedge behind the crown for something more solid to attach to.

I wanted to do as you said but he said no. I have always thought why not shoot a taper wood in to the corner on homes so it would be very simple to nail the molding. The tapered wood could be undersized so the molding wouldn't follow any issues in the sheet rock. I was alone on this thinking but it would happen for my personal work if I wanted crown molding.
