By your description you are very lucky. That bearing would have completely failed in only a few miles and many times takes the axle out too. Is there grease showing on the wheel?

The new bearings can be damaged during installation if the person pressing them in doesn't know what they are doing. Check with Kodiak for complete hub assemblies. A lot less hassle and all should be assembled correctly.
