insurance
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. I checked around and found an independent agent using MetLife for the home and autos--saving about $800/yr over Farmers--and for a $40k more valued house. But they too did not want to insure a high weight/length/cost fifth wheel, so I kept the Progressive on the trailer.
Texas is an odd state to get insurance--highly politicized, and the state agency only raises people to go to work for the insurance lobby. There is a "state suggested rate" that insurance companies can be under if they want to. Farmers had been consistently raising the value of the replacement cost of my 42-year-old home to $210K. Just sold it for $143K!!!! New home is $180K and I have more insurance with MetLife for less $$$ than Farmers.
But getting the same company to add a big fifth wheel as a rider to the truck policy is something none of them want to do--so have to insure it separately.
I now have everything covered--take the next year to look at other companies, maybe.
Joe
