Unusual tire wear? 5er not tracking straight while towing?

Some folks do a quick check by using a 6 foot 2X4 (straight!) and place against the center of both tires on one side and look for contact on the tires without any gaps.

Another way is to tape securely twine to the center of the axle grease cap and all the way over the king pin on the hitch to the center of the cap on the other side. Mark the twine at the center of the "loop" over theking pin. The check the length of the twine on either side of the mark. It should be identiccal. Do this on both axles.

Either method is only an approximation. It it looks out of wack..get the alighnment done. If you are comfortable with the results...watch for unusual wear or watch the 5er for tracking that looks out of wack..not following without looking like it is crabbing...I know you have seen semi-trailers that were crabbing going down the road.

nd they alignment will cost how much?
