We took that route South from SF Carmel area to LA area. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride the roads were curvy and narrow at times but it was worth it. We did not stay along the way but there were places people were Boondocking along the beach and did notice a campground on the north end of the route.
Hurst Castle is along the way next time we will stop there, supposed to be worth it.
The roads when curvy are easy to negotiate since they are all banked nicely. I found my self driving pretty fast at times!
