Anyone here experimented with IR thermal sensors for leaks?

In considering a purchase, can a remote IR thermometer help me find insulation gaps (such as sagging fiberglass batts) or air leaks? Or do I need a full-fledged thermal imaging system to see the leaks and gaps in enough detail to be worthwhile?

I so wish I could see inside the walls, floor, and ceiling or an RV before buying it----and these remote handheld meters and cameras seem to be the only hope short of removing some siding.

[Is RV siding difficult to remove? Do most have screws or are they secured by difficult rivets?]
