If you're referring to running it on propane, most all the people we know are on the road all the time with it going. The idea that it must be turned off to refuel might not be an old wife's tale, but you would be hard pressed to find instances of ignition while fueling. If it makes you feel safer then turn it off at the pump, but there aren't many out there that do that.
