The stove lid strut has to be replaced on my Elite.

I cannot open the strut to make room to slip it onto the bolts.

The strut has two slots for a screwdriver to be twisted to open the top. Does anyone know which one it is. My screwdriver slips out of both of them. I am ready to hit it with a hammer but want to make sure it is the right one.
