Had the same thing happen to us. Yes it is the check valve in the water pump. Since it is integral to the pump it cannot be fixed by itself. Requires a complete new pump.

I had the same problem twice with the street side ram. In order to get it to the dealer I had to drill it and put a pin in it so that it would not drop in transit. If it is the ram it will not hold...
