Has anyone drilled a hole in their Corian counter top? Are there any special issues with this? We want to change out our kitchen faucet for one that requires 2 or more holes in the counter top.

Just go slow and be careful. It cuts pretty much like a great big slab of fiberglass.

There is a special hole saw used for this. Also you need to cool the drill bit with water.

I used a hole saw in the desk top that is the same material and had no problem. Don't force it, it cut easily.

it cuts really easy. it is not a heard surface. So a drill will go in easly simular to hard wood.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I feel better about doing it now. BobW, where did you get this special hole saw and what is it called?

You really don't need one for the material used in your DT. I've always used regular hole saws without a problem.

The countertop material isn't real Corian (it's a composite acrylic) and is easily sawn and drilled but keep rotational speed low for hole saw so that you don't discolour circumference of hole from heat. High machine speeds/heat will turn product somewhat gummy.

So what did you use and did it work out well?

Mike, if that's for me I have not done it yet. Waiting until we get to TX for the winter. The one we want is almost $300 so we won't get it until we're done traveling for a bit.

It was, thanks, let us know how it turned out. I'm tempted to add a small filtered drinking water spigot to the side of the sink.

DH put a RO system in ours. We googled for the acrylic drill bit and found one at HomeDepot. Once DH drilled a center then went back with paddle bit or auger/paddle bit combo. High speed bits, as mentioned before, can cause melting and possible cracking later.
DH drilled for the spigot on the RO and then ran lines to basement for the filters and holding tank. I love it!

RO = Reverse Osmosis near as I can deduce.

RO???

We met a longtime fulltimer who added a Reverse Osmosis to his Class A. All the water went into his fresh tank & then he always pulled from tank using the water pump. Said it kept his tanks & lines cleaner.
