Our plan is to go to the RGV after Christmas. Having never been there, we don't have a clue where we will go. Just going to play it by ear.

Are you towing the Smart Car 4 down? I really want to see one of those cars so we may come over to where you are to look at it. We are going to try towing our VW bug on a tow dolly behind our ES and see how that goes. We have been towing a 12' enclosed trailer with motorcycle in it, but we want the car to run around in. We know several people who are interested in the mercedes smart car and been talking about it. We've stayed different parks over the years so haven't decided which one we're staying at this year--trying to find one that will let us work a day during the week for the site, but seems as though the parks already have those kind of jobs filled.

Layne; Most parks will want 20 to 24 hrs per week for your site. If that interest you then start making phone calls to all the parks in the valley. Have a resume ready to send via the internet. From my experiance with work camping in the Valley there are plenty of jobs available. We work at Alamo Palms in Alamo, TX and they hire a large number of work campers for 2 primary jobs, courtesy and gate attendants. Courtesy is on call 24 hrs once every 8 days. They park units, read electric meters, pass messages, etc. The gate attendants work a 16 hr shift every 5 or 6 days I think. It's a nice park with a lot of nice people and the work campers are a great group. I think this is pretty typical of what would be available in the Valley.

Thanks for the work kamp information and funke1, we'll definitely be coming over to see your setup. We met some really nice DT owners while at the factory getting repairs, so know most are super people. Seems like I remember there being a get together last year down south and we couldn't go, but it'd sure be nice if it could be done this year and we'd make sure to be there. At least I've seen where some of the hommes willbe and we'll drive around to meet some of you.

Maybe you guys can get Victoria Palms to set us up for lunch in their Banquet hall. If I remember correctly it would probably hold nearly 100.

As we just arrived at V Palms, from Algonquin Park looks like a great place and we plan to be here 3 months

I really don't care about lunch either with 100 people whatever that means. 8)

Hi to all RGV Mobile Suite posters: We should be leaving Minnesota within a week after Christrmas. We heading down 35 to Texas, probably Mercedes area first. This is our first year going south as I just retired this year.

Will we have a problem getting into parks without reservations? Will we be put into bad sites such as right next to the highway or on the railroad tracks. Do you think we should pick an RV park out of thin air just to have a site? We plan on staying in the RGV area for the first month and then moving West.

I work in the office in one of the larger RV parks in the valley. I think you will have a problem getting into any of the better RV parks without a reservation. Every winter the parks in the valley get fuller and fuller. Our first year we never had less than 70 sites available at any time Last year (3 years later) we were down to 18 sites and none of them were sites I would take! This year our reservations are ahead of last year. You may already have a hard time finding a premium type site. I would recommend you start looking immediately. Make a list of the things that are important for you and start making calls. Such things as cement pads, large sites, WIFI, Cable, cost of electric, etc are thing that vary between parks. Good luck, we love the valley and what it has to offer so come on down.
