This seems to be an ongoing topic on the internet.

I am considering buying a Winnabego Voyage 30FWRES 5th wheel.
Dry weight 8592# , Hitch weight 1660#.

I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 Double Cab, 4x4, Z71.
Tow Capacity 9600# , Payload 1906#

The numbers seem as if my truck will do the job.

Also, I will be pulling this RV about 4 times a year. No longer than
100miles at a time for the next 3 years then will be upgrading to
a bigger truck.

Any comments would be a great help.

Thank you,
Russell from Maine

Will you always be towing it empty? First glance is the truck will be overloaded once you load up the family, fuel, hitch and trailer. You should be looking at the gross trailer weight numbers, those will be more in tune with the real world weights of that trailer when your moving it, in my opinion.

As Stipit says--use the gross (GVWR) for weight and 20% of that for the pin weight.
A dry wt of 8600 probably will gross at 10000 to 10500. 20% of 10500 is 2100lbs--automatically overloading the payload of your truck and probably the rear axle rating.
Can you do it--yeah; should you do it--that's up to you.
