What hitch to get?

Swapping over from a travel trailer to a 5th wheel this spring. Only problem is I am not sure what I should get for a hitch. I have a 2015 Ram 2500, with the hitch prep package in the bed. The truck is a crew cab short bed (6' I believe), should I be looking at a sliding type or fixed? Is there some that have better bed rail clearance than others?

I had a f-250 with a 6'9" bed and used a super-glide hitch, worked great! I still have the hitch if you are interested. Pm me if you want more info.

I'm making the jump from a TT to a 5th wheel trailer. I need to buy a 5th wheel hitch. Is there any real difference between the different 5th wheel hitch manufacturers? Is one better than the others?

I have used a B&W Companion for 9 years now and no problems. They make a slider type also, but not sure if there is one to sit the Ram package.
And, yes, there is some difference in who makes the hitch...

I ordered a Curt Q20. I found it on etrailer.com. They had the bracket for the Ram and slider setup. All together I thought it was reasonable at $1044.00. From what I saw curt seemed to be pretty good as well, but that is yet to be determined.

After looking at trailers for over a year and half, my wife and I have settled on our next trailer. We bought a Ram 3500 dually with an 8 foot bed that is capable of towing it. I know I need a 5th wheel hitch rated for 20k or better. I'm hoping for input on which ones are better and which I should avoid.

I am also in the market for about the same.Have not bought yet Hensley looks good if you want to spend about $2,600.B&w also looks like a quality hitch.Spoke with someone from Hensley 2 weeks ago.Price hikes coming soon.

I have looked at alot of hitches but not Hensley. All of them rated at 20K or better. They all ranged in price between $850 and $1200. I have to wonder what makes the Hensley hitch worth over twice the cost of others.

Its an air-ride hitch.Should eliminate any chucking you may have.Maybe someone with one of these could chime in.Use the search on this site,I think these were discussed.

They are called 'Trailer Saver' and they do exactly that in my opinion. The trailer rides on air at the mounting point, allowing the truck to not transfer the road jarring bumps into the hitch point, letting the trailer kind of float and not bounce. Things ride so much better inside the trailer. Are they worth the added costs? in our case yes. Can you tow without one, yes. But anyone that has gone from a ridgid mount hitch to a Hensley say WOW, what a difference.

I totally agree with Stripit on the 'Trailer Saver'. I have the TS3 with the mounted air compressor. I LOVE it!! The RV does not get beat up from the road bumps. The hitch is heavy duty built. I believe the jaw has 1/8 clearance max. When its lock in, there is very minimal movement, compared to most other hitches. Do the investigation, read and view Hensley's documents and videos. Then you will have to determine if these benefits are what you're looking for in a quality hitch.

RNBTT-HAL,Check out new thread called "lurching trailer".Thats what the trail saver is suppose to fix.Im thinking about a more ride pin box and the trail saver combo.

I used Reese 20k without any problems however, after spending $1500 on the hitch and installation by the dealer, I realized that the problem with 'lurching' that everyone is talking about just about caused permanent damage to my neck vertebrae. I never did get the new hitch so I can't tell you the difference, but I would get the air assisted hitch if I was to do it all over again.
