I just received a weight sheet from DRV on the used TK3 we bought. I thought it would give me the pin weight from the factory. Instead it has landing leg weights, and axle weights plus LP weight for a total weight of 14,340. If the landing leg weight is 3970, I would assume the pin weight would be something less. Correct assumption?
Thanks for any input.

Too many things to consider to guess. I weighed mine this AM.
2014 38SKSB3= 4260# pin, , 15260 w/o truck, 27440# over all w/truck
These weights are with most of our stuff but hardly any water, other tanks empty

Our 36SB3 ended up having a 5K pin. You will easily have a 4,000-4,500# pin and possibly more.

I really hope you are not thinking you can tow it with a 350/3500 SRW???

We are planning to tow it with a 3500 DRW Duramax.
Is this the weight at the factory??
Thanks,

Rick

Good call on the Dually!

You will have around 3K pin right out of the box. Most of the weight you add will transfer to the bed of your truck.

You will not have any problems.

If I could ask one more question, how much clearance should one expect between the bottom of the fifth wheel trailer and the pickup side rails. Seems like this could be a critical factor when turning into a place with some uneven ground or pavement.

Thanks,

Rick

The majority of folks seem to feel 6 inches is the needed space, I ran for close to 8 years as a full time traveler with just under 5 inches of clearance and never had the trailer hit my bed, so I will say 5 inches worked for me.

We've got 6 inches, made the mistake of having a fold up tonneau cover initially, added about two inches, crunched the left side of the box on a turn in an uneven residential street...ouch.

Thanks for the reply. Could I ask what brand of hitch you have that allows the 6 inches of clearance?

My '05 36TK3 weighs in at 17400, with 4200 pin weight. But we have generator and washer/dryer. If you don't have those items, would expect your PW to be 3600 thereabouts.

I have a chart that I downloaded from the SOITC site a while back that was a listing of DRV's that were weighed at different rallies. It has all the pertinent weights one could want. These weights were collected between May of '04 and June of '10.

About 35 of these were the 36TK models. These had a range on the pin weights between 3100 lbs. to 4800 lbs. Big differences IMO. Your weight should be in between these but it doesn't really help you in knowing yours but makes for an interesting comparison.

Some other interesting notes for all DRV's are:

16% 16/99 have MDT or HDT tow vehicle
51% 50/99 Have DRW tow vehicle
32% 32/99 Have SRW tow vehicle
100% 32/32 SRW over tow vehicle GVWR (as posted on door tag)
60% 30/50 DRW over tow vehicle GVWR (as posted on door tag)
28% 28/99 Over tow vehicle axle (rear) rating (as posted on door tag)
24% 24/99 Over tow vehicle tire capacity rating (as posted on tire)
30% 30/99 Under inflated tires for load (per manufacturer specifications)
40% 40/99 Over trailer GVWR (as posted on manufacturer tag)
21% 21/99 Over trailer tire capacity (per manufacturer specifications)
11% 11/99 Over trailer axle capacity (per manufacturer specifications)
56% 56/99 Under inflated trailer tires per manufacturer specifications

I did those weighs when I was out weighing rigs across the country. I should have but failed to note who was a full time traveler and who was just a weekend or vacation user. The pin weights varied greatly when the rig was not loaded to the gills! I also did not take into account the various options that would change the weights. Washer/dryer, generator, 2nd a/c, king bed, and what was crammed, packed or just placed into the basement storage area. All make a difference. I did check tire pressures on each unit I weighed and that was how we found low tire pressures.
