Shower faucet and head

Anyone replace the shower faucet and or entire fixture with something of better quality ? Looks like access is gained by removing the wall panel in the "hallway"... Removing the wall panel looks pretty cut and dried....anyone done it yet ?

I am aware of the access panel in the pantry, but I'd like to have more room to work.

I suppose someone has to be first, no one replied so I jumped in with both feet.

Removed moulding, then the hallway panel that backs up to the shower, identified and insulated the wires on the light switches, cut an access hole (with a utility knife) in the inside panel that backs up to the shower (it's a double wall), placed a 1x4x32x3/4" piece of oak between shower and wall to accept the mounting screws from the new fixture. The new fixture is available at Lowes.
I used a brad nailer to replace the plywood and moulding.

Working by myself, 4 hours, including a trip to the Depot for the 1x4. Nothing broken !

Very nice! Looks like you did a very professional job. Now I understand why you were asking about removing this side panel. I thought you were just looking for easier access to work on the faucet. This type of fixture should be mounted in all Mobile Suites. :)

Nice installation there Gemstone. Both of us hated the corner location of the shower head on ours. Unless you had a ton of water pressure the stream in the low flow heads was too weak to spray far enough to get under. I use the shower as a hand held unit anyhow so not too much of a problem. Nancy wants a wall mounted unit for hands free use. I had a second plastic mount put on the back wall for Nancy and that solved the problem for us when at the factory in 06. Cheaper solution but it does the job. We are on our second shower head as well. Fortunately they are easy to find at the hardware store.

For those who can do without the sliding bar shower head here is all I had to do: open pantry door, remove 2 small screws and remove access panel, remove 2 water lines with my fingers, remove 2 plastic nuts holding on the shower controls, remove same from inside shower. Once I get the replacement I will reverse procedure to install. Very simple. Only tool needed is a screw driver.
