How do I make my refrigerator smell fresh? I have a small refrigerator. Some unpleasant things have gone bad in it, and since then, I've emptied it out, washed it with antibacterial soap, sprayed it with odor neutralizer, covered it in baking powder, let it air for days, and repeated. It still smelled funny, but I plugged it in and put food in it anyway. Now it smells REALLY bad- a putrid cloud of stench escapes whenever I open the door- even though I've put in baking powder and taken out any food that looks questionable.

Using a strong bleach concentration to clean it is what I would suggest. Also look to flush out the drain line. It may be harboring the nasty stuff you are smelling. There should be a small depression in the bottom rear area to collect water and let it drain out the unit to the outside.
